With another free day at my disposal, I thought I'd take a ride to Conesus Lake - a good hour and a half away from here. I wanted to check out the great numbers of water fowl at an inlet that birders have been posting about. Some of the reports included birds that would be life list additions for me, such as Killdeer, Sandpipers, Swamp Sparrows, and Cliff Swallows. I was very anxious to see them!
I drove around the perimeter of the entire lake, seeking the inlet that was "the spot" but I couldn't find it. I found a fishing area and another Wildlife Managed Area (WMA), but nothing with the numerous Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, and shore birds that are being reported. I'm hoping to get more specific directions and try again another day...
I did capture a few photos en route and was thrilled to spot an American Kestrel and an Indigo Bunting.
This could possibly be the inlet; I just couldn't figure out how to travel it Gray Catbird with berries near the fishing spot A damselfly, but I'm not sure of the name (in the Emerald family I suspect). It had very big, cool, green eyes! The only Great Blue Heron I saw flew overhead Indigo Bunting - my second of the season American Kestrel Red-tailed Hawk Red-tailed Hawk Female Red-winged Blackbird Almost home - and I spotted this young Cedar Waxwing
