A quick stop at a marsh in Hamburg this morning brought a few warblers and a very photogenic - and perhaps just plain curious - Marsh Wren. The wren totally responded to sphishing and he curiously checked us out quite thoroughly. We had been playing a tape of a Sora in the off chance that one might be at the marsh (no luck with that) but this cute, little Marsh Wren came right to us - out into the open even more than once. I was quite amazed at his brashness!

We also saw a gorgeous Northern Parula at the marsh. The warbler was high up and back lit, but I got a couple of photos that actually displays some of its beautiful coloring.  This particular species is so beautiful, even in the fall!

All together, we saw 30 species that included: Killdeer, Warbling Vireo, Mallards, Great Blue Heron, 3 Eastern Phoebes, 2 Common Yellowthroats, Magnolia Warbler, Northern Flicker, Blue Jay, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Black-capped Chickadees, American Goldfinch, and a Cedar Waxwing.

Another unsuccessful try for a Sora yesterday brought some nice birds, including 2 Wilson's Snipes, a Lesser Yellowlegs, a Merlin, and a couple of Osprey, 1 Belted Kingfisher, 1 Northern Rough-winged Swallow, 14 Barn Swallows, Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 2 Eastern Phoebes, and 2 American Kestrels.

So I still have 2 nemesis birds: the American Bittern and Sora. Maybe tomorrow!

While not good photos, these 3 at least show the gorgeous coloring of the Northern Parula.
