  Female Flicker Finds Feeder!

Happy New Year! I wish you and yours a happy and healthy 2012!

What a nice way to start out the new year - we finally had a Northern Flicker venture up to the feeders near the house today.  I've seen a few flickers around the yard, up in the sumac, around the perimeter of the woods, but never up at the feeders. I've tried to entice them with bark butter too!  Now, it could be coincidence - probably not - but I hung a new feeder this morning, given to me from my son via a gift card to our friends at Wild Birds Unlimited.  Maybe the female flicker noticed the new addition to our bistro and came up to check things out.  Whatever it was that attracted her, she was happily enjoying a seed cake when I happened to check the feeders.  I quickly grabbed my camera and was able to capture a few shots.

I just saw your website or the first time-I love your bird photos. What type of camera/lens do you use? I Love photography and take many nature shots myself-so I really enjoyed your photos! Thanks for any input!

Hi Marie, Right now, I’m shooting with the Canon Rebel T2i with a 70-135 zoom, which isn’t sufficient any more. I’d really like a 300mm or better now. Do you post your nature photos anywhere? What do you shoot with? Thanks so much for your kind words, ~ Sue
