  Rainy Day Migrants

Early this morning, I noticed a female type Scarlet Tanager sitting in the large evergreen outside my office window. It was a rainy morning but I grabbed my binoculars and went out onto the deck to check out the rest of the yard. Within just a few minutes, I saw a Swainson's Thrush and a Tennessee Warbler - both in that same tree!

I went back in for my boots, jacket, and camera and then went out to hike the yard and woods, along with the pond and field a little further down the road.  It was a good morning, in spite of the weather, and I found a few more migrants: American Redstart, Magnolia Warbler, Ovenbird, Blackpoll or Bay-breasted Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, and a Yellow Warbler.

My nicest surprise was finding a Winter Wren.  He sang once so I know it was a male and he gave me some surprisingly nice looks in response to a little spishing.  The resident pair of Brown Thrashers were still about as were several Common Yellowthroats and an Eastern Towhee.
