Driving home from visiting my mom this morning, I spied a Red-tailed Hawk along the shoulder of the 219. I chided myself for not having brought my camera once again!  Never leave home without it, I keep having to remind myself!

It didn't take me long to get home, pack up some gear, and get back on the 219.  As luck would have it, I found the beautiful creature over on the other side of the highway perched in a tree behind some pines. I parked far enough away so as not to make him nervous and he rewarded me with several fairly nice photos. I really MUST invest in a better lens one of these days, though!  I should start playing the lottery, maybe; yes?

I wasn't 100% positive it was a Red-tailed in that its head was so dark. But once he/she was done indulging me with my photo efforts, its tail shone beautifully as it flew away.  The last photo, even though a poor one, shows it off nicely.

This isn't the best photo, BUT you can really see his red tail in all its glory here!
