Chirps and Cheeps

After getting unpacked back from our family's Adirondack vacation, I was itchy to see what might be around the Outer Harbor.  I took a drive out to the Seaway Slip that evening to find two very lovely Baird's Sandpipers.  These birds hail from the Arctic and were probably weary travelers needing some replenishment.

A few days later, just after the Whimbrel arrived, a White-rumped Sandpiper joined the Baird's Sandpipers.  A few Semipalmated Sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers were also added to the mix that day.

I learned a lot by having these shorebirds here together, particularly seeing the Baird's and White-rumped Sandpipers side-by-side.  They aren't often seen in Western New York, especially with such nice views, so these few days were quite special!
