A Windy River Watch

Beginning Friday night, some windy conditions started to develop out of the south west.  Conditions were promising for some interesting birds.  Several people were at various places off and on along the lake and Niagara River on the weekend, all looking and hoping for some rare birds.

On Saturday, Jim Pawlicki and Joe Mitchell found a Sabine's Gull, Pomarine Jaeger, and Parasitic Jaeger. I saw the jaegers (Pomarine was a life bird!) on Saturday, but thankfully the Sabine's (there were actually multiple birds) stuck around and I was able to catch up with it the next day (thanks to Chris Hollister!).

The weather was pretty miserable and I chose to leave my camera behind, unfortunately.  I may have gotten a few decent photos of the Sabine's Gull.  At a couple of locations, though, during some brief dry periods, I captured some photos of a couple of Little Gulls and some Common Terns, which were abundant. Bonaparte Gulls were around in great numbers too.  Another noteworthy sighting was a couple of Peregrine Falcons - very cool!
